Every officer in NY should make a plan and leave that state, let NY city live with just Social Workers. This is what they voted for so that is what they should get. Why do the officers in NY put up with all this, they get blamed for everything that happens, some end up serving time for bad calls.
I say law enforcement should leave, turn it over completely to social workers and let NY city die, I want to hear the people of NY plead to have their city back.
There are non-lethal weapons to disable people. Police aren’t trained to deal with mentally impaired persons. And they shouldn’t be put in a situation that endangers them too. Perhaps a social worker plus police would work, with social worker trying first and police ready to act if needed?
Seeing the video I’m so sure the guy would have taken the time to sit down and have a nice talk with a social worker.
Maybe it would be better if one officer had a stun gun and the other be ready with his gun, how about that.

NYC is screwed. This guy was unpredictable and I highly doubt there are enough trained social workers to handle all these situations. Mental health issues are rampant and there isn’t any place to put these individuals. If an unarmed social worker had shown up that person might be dead if attacked by a knife wielding crazy person. Maybe have police and a trained social worker respond. Do you realize how many the city of NY will need to employ? Sounds like this guy needs to be in an institution. He obviously isn’t taking medication. I almost feel like this was a set up so Mamdani can try to get rid of police officers. Mental health issues are so unpredictable. Maybe cops can do their best to aim for the lower extremities, because this is a common issue lately. They may actually have done that here, because he’s in stable condition.
