Did the school call police after being informed by the mother?
Sounds like a very troubled family from childhood through adulthood for the parents and passed on to the murderer child.
At least the mother made an effort to get her son help and inform the school before the shooting.
As unfortunate as his entire upbringing was, dad should go away forever along with his son.
He knew he should never have purchased a gun for such a troubled kid.
I’m holding off on comments about the dad until further information comes to light. I put this shooting squarely on the school administration. If they knew 30 minutes before the shooting happened they should have put the school on IMMEDIATE LOCKDOWN until the shooter was located and taken into the office. No one would have been in the hallway for him to shoot.
All classroom doors would, should, have been locked so he couldn’t make entry. So much more I could say as a retired Middle School Administrator in charge of Crisis Management and Threat Assessment.

Just want to add: Everyone should visit the “I Love You Guys” website to see what are the protocols for active shooters in schools. I listened to these guys at numerous seminars. Based alot of my previous schools Active Shooter training on their material.
Yes, the school should have been on immediate lockdown, especially considering his past! And what is this shit that they mixed him up with another boy? THAT is incompetence!
It is sad that in hindsight several of these schools shootings could have been stopped.
Innocent life has been taken because of huge gaps or mistakes.
Our mental health for children especially about that age is horrible.
I don’t jump to conclusions about the family. However if your child has these type of sever mental issues you do not buy them an AR. People who are drug addicts do not need kids! Several huge mistakes were made and this is story will have many
I say, when you get a call like that, yank the fire alarm asap! Get as many people on their way out if the building as possible where they can run for cover if the threat is real. Then call 911 about the threat and let the Fire Department, their EMT, and the Police figure it out. But at least you cleared the building for the right reasons.
Yeah, I realize hindsight is 20/20 but it ought to be an acceptable procedure to clear the entire building from any location. You can sort it all out later.

Mr. Bill, pulling the fire alarm puts more students in harms way. It puts them in the hallways where the shooter(s) are located. That’s why schools go into LOCKDOWN. Since they have done this no one has been shot inside of locked classrooms, just UN locked ones.
