In a video statement posted on social media on Friday, Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds announced she will not seek reelection in 2026.
Reynolds, 65, a Republican, has served as governor of Iowa since May 2017. Prior to becoming Iowa’s first female governor, Reynolds served four terms as Clark County treasurer, a partial term in the Iowa state Senate, and as Lieutenant Gov. from 2011-2017.
“Serving as your governor has been the greatest honor of my life — an opportunity that, not so long ago, I never could have imagined,” Reynolds said in her video statement.
“After a lot of thought, prayer, and conversations with my family, I have decided that I will not seek reelection in 2026,” she announced.
Reynolds confirmed that she will continue to serve out the remainder of her current term.
