Dennis, take this situation and change the profession, for example impersonating a police officer, an airline pilot, a doctor etc. would your assessment be different?
I understand what Mary is saying and I do agree with her in part, but I as a grandmother of an Autistic grandchild I will side with Dennis. They are all different and have their own special capabilities which allow them to do things and outperform normal people in that particular field. This operating a train or bus so perfectly so many times shows his capabilities. Someone that really knows how to deal with autistic people should be working with this man instead of sending him to jail. Autistic brains work differently than ours, he may not be able to do simple things but yet his brain functions for one or two specific purposes, it’s amazing what they can do. The movie Rainman is somewhat of an example of what they can do. I understand the fear of something bad happening because it’s dealing with real trains, but their are alternatives which could give his brain the same sense, such as operating a train in a park etc.. Some Autistic people can become very violent which is where the problem lies. If this man is non-violent then a trained person who deals with autistic people should be able to work with him.

If they make an exception for this man, with a criminal record, and hire him, they would open the door for other criminals to have the job as well.
