REPORT: SpaceX CEO Elon Musk disrupts certain Russian operations in Ukraine with single move

From Fox Business: SpaceX CEO Elon Musk says his company appears to have been successful in blocking Russia from making “unauthorized” use of Starlink internet systems in Ukraine on Sunday.

Starlink units have supported Ukrainian forces throughout the invasion, but Russian forces have also captured many of the units as a result. Musk’s company had been working to block Russian forces from utilizing the captured devices, and Ukrainian officials now say they are working to prevent Russian access long term.

Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov said Kyiv was developing a system that would allow only authorized Starlink terminals to work on Ukrainian territory.

In a post on X, Fedorov announced:

Ukraine, together with @Starlink, has already taken the first steps that delivered rapid results in countering Russian drones. The next step is implementing a system that will allow only authorized terminals to operate on the territory of Ukraine.

In the coming days, we will share instructions for Ukrainian users to register their Starlink terminals for verification. Unverified terminals will be disabled. The registration process will be simple, fast, and user-friendly. Detailed instructions will be published shortly.

Thank you to Starlink/@SpaceX for your collaboration and proactive support of Ukrainians. Thanks to the first steps taken in recent days, no Ukrainians have been killed by Russian drones using Starlink — and that is priceless.

Musk announced early Sunday morning, “Looks like the steps we took to stop the unauthorized use of Starlink by Russia have worked. Let us know if more needs to be done.”

Fedorov replied, “The first steps are already delivering real results. We are working very closely with your team on the next important steps. Thank you for standing with us. You are a true champion of freedom and a true friend of the Ukrainian people.”
