REPORT: Only 7 House Dems vote in support of bill honoring American killed by illegal alien

From Fox News: Two hundred and one House Democrats voted against a bill that Republicans say would prevent dangerous migrants who came to the U.S. illegally as children from walking free on the streets.

The legislation passed in a 225-201 vote. Just seven Democrats voted with Republicans in favor of the bill: Reps. Adam Gray, D-Calif.; Jared Golden, D-Maine; Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, D-Wash.; Don Davis, D-N.C.; Vicente Gonzalez, D-Texas; Laura Gillen, D-N.Y., and Henry Cuellar, D-Texas.

The Kayla Hamilton Act is named after a 20-year-old woman with autism who was killed by a 16-year-old from El Salvador, Walter Javier Martinez, in 2022. Martinez pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in April.

Martiez came to the U.S. illegally as an unaccompanied minor and was a member of the notorious MS-13 gang, according to a press release from the Maryland State Attorney’s Office in Hartford County.

The bill, sponsored by Rep. Russell Fry, R-S.C., would increase screening requirements for unaccompanied illegal alien children (UAC), and would require Health and Human Services Department (HHS) to screen the unaccompanied minors for gang tattoos. If they are found with gang markings, the illegal alien minors would be placed in secure federal facilities rather than letting them go to a sponsor somewhere in the U.S.

The bill would also prohibit unaccompanied minors from going to sponsors who are also in the U.S. illegally.

Any potential sponsors would also have to undergo a background check, including fingerprint scans and an immigration status check.

Fry celebrated passage of his bill Tuesday evening, an announced, “The House just passed my bill—the Kayla Hamilton Act—to fix dangerous failures, strengthen background checks, and put child safety and public safety first. We are one step closer to justice and ensuring tragedies like Kayla’s never happen again.”

Tonight, the House passed the Kayla Hamilton Act, with 201 Democrats voting against it. The legislation would enhance gang affiliation screenings for unaccompanied migrant minors who cross the border illegally. It’s named after an autistic 20-year-old woman who was murdered by a 16-year-old illegal alien MS-13 gang member from El Salvador.

Walter Javier Martinez pleaded guilty to first degree murder in April.

Seven Democrats joined Republicans in supporting the bill:

Democrats opposing the bill are fuming. Rep. Delia Ramirez (D-Ill.) claimed, “Republicans are treating unaccompanied migrant children like criminals. We must use every tool at our disposal to protect vulnerable children. … This bill criminalizes children and creates dangerous precedent that only makes them more vulnerable.”

(Ramirez is the same congresswoman who is demanding that DHS Sec. Kristi Noem be impeached or fired.)
