All right, buckle up butter cup. Here is a harsh reality, some of the best firearms in the world are made by foreign companies. Full stop. I would love to see American companies make their products to the quality of some of the foreign counterparts. Some of the American stuff is awesome and some is far from acceptable in my opinion. Now before the haters chime in, I work with an FFL and have sold thousands of firearms from pocket pistols to FN Scars and many others. Different manufacturers have a product that is hard to beat in my opinion and I feel our troops deserve the best of the best. Unfortunately government contracts often go to the lowest bidder. That should scare the crap out of you.

USA is capable of manufacturing military firearms here stateside but a lot of R&D, machining, tooling and patent research will have to be done first. OCONUS firearms mfr have the dibs right now in high quality guns:FN, Glock, Sig Sauer, Heckler & Koch.
