I do love the idea, but practically speaking, I don’t think Zelensky is going to hold up his end of the bargain, even if he wants to. The US can’t begin mining operations while there’s a war going on, and the outcome of the war is too uncertain.
I also think this is going to piss Putin off and make him less likely to pull his forces out of Ukraine. He probably also wants those minerals, etc. If Putin wins, the land will belong to Russia, and the US won’t get any minerals. The deal may motivate Putin even more, because he has nothing to gain by stopping now. I certainly hope I’m wrong.
