POLL: Should AR-15s be banned as purchasable firearms?

16

Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott urged President Trump on CNN to ban AR-15s nationwide, calling it a simple step to help combat crime across the country.

Scott said, “The president could also do some very simple things for us, Jake. Not just for Baltimore, but for the whole country…The president can say, no one will no [sic] longer be able to go into a store and buy a [sic] AR-15.”

The National Association for Gun Rights pushed back on Scott’s claim that banning AR-15s would make Baltimore safer. Claims that banning AR-15s would cut crime are dubious. FBI data shows knives killed over twice as many people as rifles in 2021, and in 2020 more deaths were caused by fists and feet than by any rifle.
