Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) was the sole Republican to vote against a continuing resolution (CR) in the House, which passed 217-213 to fund the government through September and avert a shutdown.

Massie, a fiscal conservative, opposed the bill because it maintained spending levels without significant cuts, a position he’s held consistently against stopgap measures. President Trump, who supported the CR to avoid disruptions and focus on his agenda, publicly criticized Massie on Truth Social, calling him a “GRANDSTANDER” and threatening to lead a primary challenge against him.

This isn’t the first clash between the two; in 2020, Trump labeled Massie a “third-rate grandstander” for delaying a COVID-19 relief bill vote, even demanding he be ousted from the GOP. Massie fired back on X, arguing that Trump’s claim that he always supported CRs was misleading, clarifying that he only backed one under Speaker McCarthy with an 8% discretionary spending cut, which never passed. The feud’s tension between Massie’s libertarian-leaning fiscal hawkishness and Trump’s pragmatic push for party unity has caused splitting within Republican voters. Massie’s defiance earned praise from some conservatives for standing on principle, but others, including Trump allies, see it as obstructionist at a critical time.

Despite the vote, the CR moved to the Senate, where it’s expected to pass with bipartisan support before the deadline. Even so, we want to ask you, the reader: do you support Thomas Massie voting against the CR? Answer in our poll below and comment your thoughts on the CR before the Senate vote.
