Not that cheating is right – but nothing happened to the Patriots or Astros (yes, I’m aware one is football and one baseball) for cheating. Rose should be pardoned.
I would probably be one of Rose’s hardest critics as I grew up a die hard Dodgers fan and Charlie hustle was a major thorn in their side. I grew up hating the Reds for beating my Dodgers and Pete Rose was one of those Reds. But the bottom line is Pete Rose deserves to be in the Hall of Fame; period. What he did for baseball should never be downplayed, no matter what his crime might have been. And the fact that the commissioner was trying to make an example out of him and had a major bias and hatred against him should not have come into play and is IMHO just wrong. I could possibly see all this had he bet against his own team, but my understanding is he ONLY bet FOR his own team, which is like doing 74 in a 65 zone; yeah, technically it’s illegal, but really only warrants a slap on the wrist, not a lifetime ban from a sport you helped make that commissioner a millionaire from. I think this is the right thing to do by Trump and the next Hall of Fame inductee should be Pete (Charlie Hustle) Rose. No questions asked
