The fifth suspect arrested in an alleged New Year’s Eve bombing plot by a far-left terrorist group is a transgender Marine veteran who wanted to “recreate Waco” on ICE agents, according to a criminal complaint unsealed Tuesday.
Micah James Legnon, 29, was arrested Saturday in Louisiana after investigators linked him to chats with suspected members of the Turtle Island Liberation Front, who allegedly planned to plant pipe bombs targeting businesses and ICE agents. Legnon, who used the aliases “Kateri TheWitch” and “DarkWitch She/Her” in chat groups, was allegedly planning an attack in New Orleans to coincide with coordinated attacks in Southern California, according to the complaint.
The complaint says Legnon shared images of assault rifles and body armor, and that a search of the suspect’s home in New Iberia uncovered sniper and SWAT training manuals, assault rifles, and large amounts of ammunition. Investigators also allege Legnon posted a Facebook story on Dec. 4 calling Border Patrol agents “masked f–ks.”
“S–t time to recreate Waco tx with these f–kers. F–k ice,” the extremist wrote, which the FBI took as a threat to recreate the 1993 massacre by David Koresh’s Davidians that ended with four agents and more than 70 civilians killed.
Legnon is being held at the Iberia Parish Jail on charges of making interstate threats. The complaint notes that the suspect is a former Marine with combat training, now uses she/her pronouns, and is a former police officer. Sources told The New York Post that Legnon is a known “trantifa” extremist. According to antifa researcher Andy Ngo, who first reported the arrest, Legnon’s social media posts include repeated calls for the death of those labeled as “fascists.”
FBI agents said TILF is a little-known extremist group that is pro-Palestinian, anti-law-enforcement, and anti-government, and has been covertly fundraising to spark what it calls a “revolutionary change in government,” according to an affidavit tied to Legnon’s alleged co-conspirators.
Four alleged members of the group—Audrey Carroll, 30; Zachary Page, 32; Dante Garfield, 24; and Tina Lai, 41—were arrested in Los Angeles after being filmed testing homemade explosives in the Mojave Desert. The four and Legnon were reportedly part of a Signal chat called “Order of the Black Lotus,” a TILF splinter group. Page, who is also transgender, has requested a transfer to a women’s jail.
Investigators say the alleged New Year’s Eve plot, dubbed “Operation Midnight Sun,” involved planting bomb-filled backpacks at two Los Angeles businesses. During searches, agents found materials and signs reading “Death to America,” “Death to ICE,” and “Long live Turtle Island and Palestine.” The group’s name references “Turtle Island,” an Indigenous term for North America.
