Police are still trying to identify and track down the person who opened fire inside a Brown University classroom on Saturday, killing two students and wounding nine others.
The person of interest seen in video footage released by the FBI is a stocky-built man who police are estimating to be 5’8″ tall.
Meanwhile, internet sleuths are demanding to know why in the world is Brown University, located in Providence, Rhode Island, suddenly scrubbing their website of all references to one particular Muslim student, and why are the YouTube videos related to that student also being yanked down?
The student’s physical stature closely resembles that of the person of interest seen in the FBI videos.
X user Open Source Intel posted the following Tuesday afternoon:
All references to Mustapha Kharbouch have been removed from Brown University’s website.
Archived profiles described Mustapha as a queer Palestinian activist and a third generation Palestinian refugee before they were taken down.
“Meet Our Student Assistants: Mustapha Kharbouch ’27
Mustapha Kharbouch ’27 is a first-year student considering concentrating in International & Public Affairs and Anthropology with a focus on the Middle East. They are a third generation Palestinian refugee born and raised in Lebanon. Attaining a scholarship to attend UW Maastricht, they have led and continue to help with community-building initiatives and social change roles. They are fond of bringing their lived experiences into academic spaces and participating in engaged scholarship. They are highly moved by questions of indigeneity, justice, and inclusion, and particularly interested in the intersection of queer studies with Palestinian studies.
Mustapha is also currently the Cultural Programming Coordinator for the Global Brown Center and on the e-board of the Arab Society.”
Investigative journalist Laura Loomer seized on the report and added, “Why is @BrownUniversity scrubbing all information from their website about a “they them” Muslim who was involved with Students for Justice in Palestine? ☕️ Oh…”

In another post later Tuesday night, Loomer added:
I am not saying the Brown Univeristy shooter is Mustapha Kharbouch, however I found this page on a YouTube account that belongs to a man named Mustapha Kharbouch with the same spelling.
The YouTube channel is full of Islamic videos and Islamic playlists and videos that teach how to build electronic devices at home with wires.
In the video below, notice how he holds his hands behind his back in the surveillance video released by Providence, Rhode Island police yesterday. This is common in Middle East culture, and witnesses said it sounded like the shooter was speaking Arabic, in addition to screaming Allahu Akbar!
@BrownUniversity is actively scrubbing their website and deleting all mentions of Mustapha Kharbouch, who was studying in the International & Public Affairs and Anthropology Department at Brown University with a focus on the Middle East. His bio says he is a third-generation “Palestinian refugee” who was born and raised in Lebanon. Photos online show he was an active member of Students for Justice in Palestine at Brown University. He also has “they/he” pronouns in his X bio.
Why won’t police say what the shooter yelled before he opened fire? ALLAHU AKBAR is what witnesses heard.
Why is Brown deleting this Palestinian from their website? Is he a suspect? As I was taking photos of this YouTube channel today, Islamic videos on this channel were being deleted in real time.

X user End Wokeness is also demanding answers:
“Umm, why did @BrownUniversity just scrub its entire website of Mustapha Kharbouch (Free Palestine, LGBTQ activist)?”
“His 𝕏 account was also just scrubbed.”

After “End Wokeness” started asking questions, Brown University blocked the account on X.

Brown University appears to have responded to the speculation, claiming the student was being “doxxed.” If that is the only reason, then the massive effort to scrub the university website, along with deleting his YouTube videos and X account is only fueling the flames.

This archived page claims he is from Lebanon.
His X has also reportedly been deleted.

Screenshots of the now-deleted Brown University profile on the student are now circulating on social media.

Kharbouch wrote an op-ed in August 2024, admitting he was part of the pro-Palestine student encampment protesting against Israel earlier that year.
The op-ed is titled, ““I Hear The Voice of My Ancestors Calling”: From The Camps to The Campus.”

It was earlier reported that the gunman went to a specific classroom that was in a study session for finals, and that he “yelled something,” then began shooting.
