DML & Miss Mary, thank you for doing this podcast! The subject matter is so very important. Parents need to be held accountable for their actions, & how they parent. It doesn’t seem that many people have high expectations anymore, of themselves or the children they are raising. For instance, look at how many go to the store in pajamas, & so do their children. In order to be a respectful person, one needs to respect themselves first. We were always told to put your best foot forward, do the next right thing. To Show Up, for your spouse and your family. Our children learn by example, & the environment in which they live. I believe almost every school shooting has happened with a parent’s gun or one their parent purchased. If those guns were locked up; like they should be, many, if not all, shootings would not occur. People are responsible for the proper storage of their guns. I believe in the 2nd Amendment, however, children in the household should not have access to them. There are always exceptions, but not many. I also agree with your opinions on cell phones & internet being one of the big things that have changed society, for the worst. Aside from the fact that the nuclear family is radically different than it once was, phones & internet contribute to the breakdown of the family unit, as well. You are right, these things could become conversations that would last a long time. Enjoy the beautiful family the two of you have created. Thanks always, for bringing many important topics to the table. On a side note, my best friend (of 45 yrs.) has two grandchildren that continue to be in counseling since the Oxford High School shooting here in Michigan. The amount of children & adults that are affected, and could be for the rest of their lives is staggering. God bless us all.
This podcast had me in tears. Every day I sent my daughter to school for the past 20 years I prayed for her to come home and be safe. She told me every day she went to school she was afraid. She and I both have anxiety to this day. There is no excuse why our schools can’t be secured with exactly what you mentioned. We have all this money for other countries but nothing to keep our schools secure. Don’t the people in congress love their kids? Bulletproof glass, armed guards at every entrance, metal detectors and secure perimeters. The lock down drills aren’t effective they’re sitting ducks. Please do your film on this! It’s been 25 years since Columbine and still nothing. The problem isn’t going to go away.
