  1. Ha! That will be the day. America would rather go bankrupt like the USSR did, than stop giving money we dont have to our enemies. We’ve even gone so far as to arm the Taliban in afganistan. Im suprized our troops left with the shirts on their backs.

  2. I was stationed in Izmir, Turkey, in the USAF in 1980-1981 as a Security Police Officer (Law Enforcement) At that time we had no base as the Turkish Air Force had taken Cigli (pronounced Chili) Air Base back for their own use. We had to rent apartments in downtown Izmir, Turkey, and live on the economy in the 3rd largest city in Turkey. All our facilities were scattered throughout the city and were protected by Turkish guards the USAF employed. We also employed many interpreters to assist us with the language barrier. The 1980’s were much more peaceful than now, but we still had terrorist activities to contend with. They took us out of uniform, declared Martial Law and a curfew for a period of time because of two Security Police officers being killed outside of Incirlik Air base a few hours away from us. We all frequented Konak (where this happened) and Alsanjack on a daily basis and although there was some Anti-American sentiment, it was nothing like this! We periodically had Navy ships coming into port in Izmir Bay and Navy personnel on shore leave then, too! Some of them got quite intoxicated and caused problems. It was our job to keep them out of trouble and out of “Buja” the local Turkish Prison! (LOL)
