  1. At my polling place, we always count the ballots when the polls close, to be sure we haven’t missed any that may have stuck in the machine bin. We also have to look for write-ins, and we sort the absentee ballots and put them on top of stack. Paper work requires number of ballots, number in excess of machine count (never happens on my watch), number of absentee ballots. We write this info on several different documents.
