Democratic leaders erupted Thursday after President Trump abruptly fired Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden, who was notified via email from the White House’s personnel office, according to the Associated Press.

“Carla,” the email reportedly began. “On behalf of President Donald J. Trump, I am writing to inform you that your position as the Librarian of Congress is terminated effective immediately. Thank you for your service.”

Appointed by President Obama in 2016, Carla Hayden was the first woman and first African American Librarian of Congress. Praised for modernizing the Library and expanding access, she faced criticism from conservatives who accused her of promoting “radical” content and books by Trump critics.

Just hours before her firing, the American Accountability Foundation criticized Carla Hayden on X as “woke” and “anti-Trump,” accusing her of promoting “trans-kids” content. After the firing was announced, the group celebrated and thanked President Trump.
