From CBS News: The co-founder of Ben & Jerry’s has resigned from the ice cream brand after saying his company, known for its social activism, has lost “the independence to pursue our values” under the ownership of British giant Unilever.
Jerry Greenfield’s announcement follows the company’s failure in 2022 to block Unilever from selling its ice cream in West Bank settlements, which Ben & Jerry’s said would run counter to its values.
Greenfield said he could “no longer, in good conscience, and after 47 years, remain an employee” of the Vermont-based company, according to a statement published on X by co-founder Ben Cohen late Tuesday.
The brand was founded by the two school friends in 1978 and acquired by Unilever in 2000. It is now owned by the Magnum Ice Cream Company, a Unilever subsidiary.
Blaming it on President Donald Trump, Greenfield claimed that “our country’s current administration is attacking civil rights, voting rights, the rights of immigrants, women, and the LGBTQ community.”
“Standing up for the values of justice, equity, and our shared humanity has never been more important, and yet Ben & Jerry’s has been silenced, sidelined for fear of upsetting those in power,” he fumed.
He concluded his statement by declaring that if he can’t carry his values forward inside the company, “then I will carry them forward outside.”
After 47 years, Jerry has made the difficult decision to step down from the company we built together. I’m sharing his words as he resigns from Ben & Jerry’s. His legacy deserves to be true to our values, not silenced by @MagnumGlobal #FreeBenAndJerrys pic.twitter.com/EZXGRjs76a

Many conservatives have boycotted Ben & Jerry’s ice cream products, as the company has promoted Palestine, Black Lives Matter, illegal immigration, LGBTQ issues, and more radical left causes.
Ben & Jerry’s should be boycotted into oblivion for wanting to interfere with children’s bodies. No child is trans you sicko. And leave women & gays alone while you’re at it. pic.twitter.com/B3zI5tK3j8

In a separate report, the New York Post explained: Unilever and Ben & Jerry’s have clashed since 2021, when the Chubby Hubby maker said it would stop sales in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.
The brand has since sued its parent over alleged efforts to silence it and described the Gaza conflict as “genocide,” a rare stance for a major US company.
