WILD DEM STUNT: Nearly A Dozen NYC Officials Arrested After Demanding Access To ICE Holding Cells

From the New York Times: Federal officers arrested 11 Democratic elected officials inside a federal building in Lower Manhattan on Thursday after the officials demanded access to cells used by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency to detain migrants.

The officials, including Brad Lander, the city comptroller, and city and state lawmakers, were arrested after they showed up at 26 Federal Plaza and sought to inspect the 10th-floor holding cells, which are operated by ICE and closed to the public. The cells have drawn scrutiny following complaints of unsanitary and overcrowded conditions, leading a federal judge to order ICE to improve the conditions last month.

Officials with the Department of Homeland Security, which oversees ICE, denied the elected officials access and arrested them shortly after 3:45 p.m., following a one-hour standoff during which the officials sat down on the floor, refused to leave and began to chant after unfurling a banner that read: “NYers against ICE.”

At about the same time, another group of Democratic elected officials was arrested after the officials joined about 40 protesters outside 26 Federal Plaza attempting to block the garage doors typically used by ICE as it moves vans carrying detained immigrants. The arrested officials, including Jumaane D. Williams, the public advocate, sat down on the ground, chanting for the release of everyone in ICE custody.

According to DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin, a total of 71 people were arrested on Thursday, including the 11 elected Democrat officials.

Fox News reporter Bill Melugin shared details on the illegal alien criminals the Democrats were throwing such a fit about and complaining they had been detained. He wrote:

Per ICE these are some of the crimes committed by aliens detained on the 10th floor:

– A confirmed MS-13 member convicted of criminal possession of a weapon and DUI
– An illegal alien with 2kg of fentanyl
– Illegal alien convicted of criminal possession of a gun
– An illegal alien with a final order of removal who was arrested for flying drones near the white house multiple times
– An illegal alien convicted of drug trafficking in Switzerland

Melugin shared additional details and video footage of the wild scene:

Per multiple ICE sources, NYC Comptroller Brad Lander & other politicians & protesters are currently trying to get into the 10th floor ICE office & holding cells at 26 Federal Plaza in NYC, while other protesters are blocking ICE vans from leaving the facility downstairs. ICE has had to lock the doors on the 10th floor and now has security posted at the door.

NY state Assemblymember Tony Simone
NY state Assemblymember Steven Raga

Simone raged, “Myself, nearly a dozen of my colleges, and so many more brave New Yorkers took a stand against this fascist federal government who is kidnapping and illegally holding members of our community. We were arrested defending the dignity of our neighbors.”

Carroll claimed, “This afternoon, I was arrested with 10 of my colleagues protesting the inhumane and illegal activity that is going on at 26 Federal Plaza. All we wanted to do was view the facilities and see our neighbors who’ve been abducted. ICE is acting with impunity. It’s time to shut down 26 Federal Plaza.”

Calling the illegal alien criminals “abducted refugees,” Carroll declared, “My colleagues and I are inside 26 federal plaza to demand to observe conditions of abducted refugees. We cannot allow ICE to abduct our neighbors.”

Salazar whined, “Happening NOW: All officials inside of 26 Federal Plaza were detained for fighting for their immigrant neighbors.”
