From the New York Post: Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) claimed the disturbing syringe attack against her was motivated by anger over not enough Somalis being deported — and suggested President Trump is to blame for the assault.
“The man that attacked me was specifically upset that Trump’s order to deport Somalis was not yielding enough deportations of Somalis,” the “Squad” lawmaker told reporters Wednesday, during a press conference at Minneapolis’ Karmel Mall.
“He wanted to come get the person he thought was protecting the Somalis,” Omar said of the 55-year-old suspect Anthony Kazmierczak.
Kazmierczak rushed the stage during a town hall event in North Minneapolis Tuesday and used a syringe to spray the Somali-born congresswoman with a foul-smelling liquid, according to witnesses and video footage.
The liquid was later determined to be apple cider vinegar.
During the press conference on Wednesday, Omar raged against President Trump, claiming that he’s the one to blame for all the death threats she receives. She claimed that the threats against her plummeted during the four years he was out of office, but have now increased since he returned to the Oval Office.
“I wouldn’t be where I am at today — having to pay for security, having the government to think about providing me security — if Donald Trump wasn’t in office and if he wasn’t so obsessed with me,” she claimed.

ABC reporter Rachel Scott announced Tuesday night that Trump suggested Omar may have staged the syringe attack.
Just spoke to Pres. Trump. I asked him if he had seen the video of Rep. Omar being attacked and sprayed by a substance.
“No. I don’t think about her. I think she’s a fraud. I really don’t think about that. She probably had herself sprayed, knowing her,” the president said.

In an interview on CNN, Omar again tried to imply that Trump was to blame for the syringe attack.
However, when CNN’s Kaitlan Collins specifically asked her for a response to Trump’s suggestion that she staged the attack, Omar did not deny it, but only dodged the question, and instead tried to blame Trump.
“This is also somebody who was talking about me in Iowa. And then seems to exhibit some sort of dementia when he says he doesn’t think about me. Maybe it is time for the 25th amendment to be invoked, because he certainly cannot remember what he said an hour ago,” she wildly suggested.
