WILD BRIEFING: Jean-Pierre pounded by reporters over MIA Biden, threatens transition of power process

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was pounded by multiple reporters during a press briefing on Friday over the ongoing spending bill battle in Congress while a potential government shutdown looms on the horizon.

Reporters demanded to know why Joe Biden has been silent on the matter, since he is, officially, still the president.  They’re also openly acknowledging that, for all practical purposes, Biden has faded into the background, and that President-elect Donald Trump is now leading the way.

Jean-Pierre repeatedly and defiantly blamed the funding chaos on Republicans, Trump, and Elon Musk.  As she spewed multiple false claims during the press briefing, Biden’s press secretary stressed at one point that “we can’t twist the facts.”

She also threatened that the Biden administration may not transfer power to President-elect Donald Trump if there is a government shutdown.

“If there is a shutdown… transition activities will be restricted,” she threatened.  “We’re doing everything to ensure a smooth transition, but the choice to allow a transition to move forward is in the hands of Republicans in Congress. We can continue to have this smooth transition of power if they stop threatening a shutdown,” she added.

Jean-Pierre kept insisting that congress had a “bipartisan deal” worked out, and Republicans, Trump and Musk “blew it up.”

“Republicans blew up this deal. They did. They need to fix this. Period. They have to. Republicans need to stop playing politics with a government shutdown. They are doing the bidding of their billionaire friends, that’s what we’re seeing, at the expense of hardworking Americans,” she claimed.

She touted that Biden has been in touch with Democrat leaders Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, and gets regular updates.

“What Americans need to know is that you have Republicans in Congress… who got in the way… who stopped a bipartisan agreement… they got in the way, they created this mess,” she claimed.

Jean-Pierre alleged that “both sides sat down, they came to an agreement… we thought we were moving in that direction, and Republicans decided instead to listen and give space to their billionaire friends and not put the American people first. That’s what is happening, that’s what we’re seeing.”

“Republicans are breaking their word,” KJP alleged, as she claimed the pork-filled bill that had initially been presented would simply lower prescription drug costs, make it harder to off-shore jobs to China, and provide services to veterans.

Instead, she falsely claimed that Republicans put forth a bill that would pave the way for tax breaks for their billionaire friends.

She claimed that Biden knows how to work with Congress, but Republicans blew this deal up and now they have to fix it.

Jean-Pierre wildly claimed that “President Trump and Elon Musk are, you know, trying to pave the way. What they’re doing is trying to pave the way for $5 trillion to our national debt. That’s what this decision does. Uh — I mean, you’re talking about — with cuts for billionaires slashing Social Security, slashing Medicare, slashing Head Start. Congressional Republicans did what they did because of what the President-Elect said and what Elon Musk said. That’s the reality. You guys all reported this. That’s why we are where we are today, so this is for Speaker Johnson to fix. This is the mess that he created. He needs to fix this again, a bipartisan agreement. There is a bipartisan agreement.”

CNN’s Arlette Saenz asked if there’s “a strategy” behind Joe Biden being missing in action during the battle over the government funding, and questioned whether there was concern that if Biden were involved it would “do more harm than good.”

Curtis Houck shared the following:

NBC’s @GabeGutierrez: “I’ll go at the question in another way. In this moment, is the President leading?”

KJP: “The President is the President of the United States, and he is leading and to be very clear, as it relates to this, I’ve said this many times before, moments ago, I’ll say it again, we have done this strategy before. This is not new where we have said Congress needs to deal with this. This is their number one job is to keep the government open, and there was an agreement on the on the table, not just an agreement, a bipartisan agreement. Speaker Johnson created this mess. He needs to fix it. Period.”

Gutierrez: “To be clear, the strategy is he is leading by staying in the background.”

KJP: “The strategy is Congress Republicans in particular need to do their jobs and get out of their own way and focus on the American people, not their billionaire friends. That is what needs to happen, and that’s what the president wants to see.”

Another reporter asked, “When is the next time that people will hear from the president [Biden]?”

“I’m not going to get into hypotheticals,” Jean-Pierre dodged, sneering, “It is very easy fix this… the mess that Republicans created.”
