Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) is joining a number of conservatives who are erupting in outrage over the ‘lame-duck’ stop-gap spending bill which is about to be voted on in Congress.

The 1,547-page bill was just released Tuesday night, giving congress members practically no time to even read it before they are expected to vote on it ahead of a Friday deadline.

CBS News reported: The bill would extend government funding through March 14, but it also includes disaster aid, health care policy extenders and a pay raise for members of Congress, among other provisions. The disaster relief portion of the bill alone carries a price tag of $110 billion.

Just some of the wild spending Democrats have slipped into the bill which Republicans are opposing include:

  • A pay increase for members of Congress from $174,000 to $243,000 per year.
  • Also, members of Congress are receiving an opt out from being required to use Obamacare
  • Funding for at least 12 new biolabs
  • Expands the Pandemic and All Hazards Preparedness and Response Act, which allows for vaccine and mask mandates, vaccine passports, intentional emergency powers, gain of function research
  • New provision which lets Congress block subpoenas for House data, including emails, potentially preventing any investigation into the J6 Committee
  • Funding for the State Department’s ‘Global Engagement Center’, a program which is used to censor conservative news

House Speaker Mike Johnson dismissed the revolt he is facing over the bill, saying in a Fox & Friends interview Wednesday morning, claiming he doesn’t like it either, but insisted, “we’ve got to get this done,” saying when Trump gets into office next month, Republicans will finally be able to push their own agenda through.

Sen. Rand Paul blasted Johnson, writing on social media, “I had hoped to see @SpeakerJohnson grow a spine, but this bill full of pork shows he is a weak, weak man.

“The debt will continue to grow. Ultimately the dollar will fail. Democrats are clueless and Big Gov Republicans are complicit. A sad day for America.”

On Tuesday, Paul had announced that he will delay the passage of the massive Omnibus Spending Bill if it clears the House, potentially leading to a government shutdown if not passed by Friday.

“Great!” responded Elon Musk.

“Speaker Johnson appeared on Fox & Friends, insisting this spending bill is necessary. It’s a clear sign of weakness and a major disappointment. He has the legal authority to shut down the government instead of caving—so why won’t he?” DML wrote.
