From Fox News: Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Saturday announced the U.S. will revoke visas held by South Sudanese passport holders and no others will be issued, effective immediately.

Rubio attributed the change to “the failure of South Sudan’s transitional government to accept the return of its repatriated citizens in a timely manner,” according to a statement posted on X.

The U.S. Department of State on Saturday wrote in a statement that it is time for the Transitional Government of South Sudan to “stop taking advantage” of the U.S.

In a statement post on X, Rubio announced, “I am taking actions to revoke all visas held by South Sudanese passport holders and to restrict any further issuance to prevent entry into the United States, effective immediately, due to the failure of South Sudan’s transitional government to accept the return of its repatriated citizens in a timely manner.”

Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) responded, “A country that refuses to receive its own citizens as they’re repatriated from the U.S. is not a friend to the United States. Too bad that South Sudan had to find out the hard way.”

Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau announced:

“Let there be no mistake: the Administration of @POTUS @realDonaldTrump is committed to robust enforcement of our Nation’s immigration laws, and expects all other countries to accept repatriation of their own nationals. The Government of South Sudan has violated this obligation by refusing to accept one of their nationals certified by their own Embassy in Washington and repatriated to their country.

“Our efforts to engage diplomatically with the South Sudanese Government have been rebuffed. Accordingly, the @StateDept under @SecRubio has suspended ALL visas from South Sudan. Effective immediately, all visa appointments are cancelled, no new visas will be issued, no existing visas will be effective, and hence NO ONE from South Sudan will be entering the United States on a visa until this matter is resolved.”
