Democrat Sen. Chris Van Hollen of Maryland is facing widespread mockery from conservatives over his trip to El Salvador to meet with deported illegal alien and alleged MS-13 gang member Kilmar Abrego Garcia.

Van Hollen claims Abrego Garcia was “illegally abducted and is being held in a notorious prison in El Salvador,” and has vowed to keep fighting for his return to the United States.

Immigration officials had determined that Abrego Garcia was an MS-13 gang member back in 2019. And in 2021, his (American citizen) wife filed domestic abuse allegations against him.

Van Hollen is being blasted for appearing to care more about an illegal alien than American citizens, or than the American victims of illegal alien crime.

President Donald Trump mocked Van Hollen in a Truth Social post early Friday morning.

“Senator Chris Van Hollen of Maryland looked like a fool yesterday standing in El Salvador begging for attention from the Fake News Media, or anyone. GRANDSTANDER!!!” Trump wrote.

Van Hollen had posted a photo of himself sitting at a table in conversation with Abrego Garcia, and wrote, “I said my main goal of this trip was to meet with Kilmar. Tonight I had that chance. I have called his wife, Jennifer, to pass along his message of love. I look forward to providing a full update upon my return.”

The New York Times used the photo for a report, with the headline, “Senator Meets with Wrongly Deported Maryland Man in El Salvador.”

The White House reposted a screenshot of the NY Times headline, and “fixed it,” to read: “Senator Meets With Deported MS-13/Illegal Alien Who’s Never Coming Back.”

During the time Van Hollen was pulling off his El Salvador trip to meet with a deported illegal alien, President Trump was meeting with Patty Morin, an “angel mom” whose daughter was horrifically killed by another illegal alien man from El Salvador.

The White House posted side-by-side photos and wrote, “We are not the same.”

ARE THOSE MS-13 GANG TATTOOS ON HIS FINGERS?  Democrats have repeatedly insisted that Abrego Garcia is NOT an MS-13 gang member, despite police records from 2019 indicating he IS.

Multiple X users are now drawing attention to the tattoos on his fingers, which appear very, very similar to gang tattoos on another MS-13 gang member’s fingers seen in a photo from 2006.

El Salvador President Nayib Bukele also mocked Van Hollen for his meeting with Abrego Garcia.  See report below:
