From BreitbartTense standoffs erupted between U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents and protesters in Downtown Los Angeles on Friday, as people attempted to thwart illegal immigration sweeps.

Viral video showed ICE agents escorting handcuffed people into vans as protesters shouted them down, with one individual throwing eggs at the moving vehicles. In one video, a man could be heard yelling in Spanish to warn the people nearby about the impending raids. Per the Los Angeles Times:

Another raid occurred at a business in the Garment District, with agents in riot gear detaining workers at a clothing store as dozens of people began to gather outside. As workers were hauled off in cuffs, throngs of people yelled at the agents and held up cellphones to record them, according to videos of the showdown. One person threw eggs at one of the vehicles as agents pushed members of the public back, the videos showed.

In the street, immigrant-rights advocates stood on a bed of a truck, using megaphones to speak to the workers inside the store, reminding them of their constitutional rights and instructing them not to sign anything or say anything to federal agents. They also told the agents that lawyers wanted access to the workers, and sometimes called out specific names.

Protesters started gathering once they realized the ICE raids were being carried out.

Independent journalist Anthony Cabassa posted a number of videos on X as the chaos escalated.

Federal agents were seen in riot gear, as the protesters being to throw objects at them.

X user Doreen Linder shared one video Friday afternoon and explained: “In downtown LA, a business owner has locked ICE inside the business. ICE came to search and are now trapped inside. FBI has just arrived!”

In another video, Linder announced:

Things are calming down in LA. The owner locked a business to keep others from getting in because a riot was ensuing. ICE captured 20 people from this location. There is another where they took another 20.

Crowds were not letting the agents leave and ICE called FBI for backup. The crowd turned into a mob for a while. Tear gas had to be used. Eggs were being thrown at Federal vehicles and agents.

Finally the crowd was pushed back. the vehicles left and then the crowd dispersed. Rumor is that people are now going to protest at the federal courthouse.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, a Democrat, blasted the ICE raids as she released a statement.

“As Mayor of a proud city of immigrants, who contribute to our city in so many ways, I am deeply angered by what has taken place. These tactics sow terror in our communities and disrupt basic principles of safety in our city. My office is in close coordination with immigrant rights community organizations. We will not stand for this,” she fumed.

White House adviser and Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller retorted, “You have no say in this at all. Federal law is supreme and federal law will be enforced.”

The Los Angeles Police Department also posted a statement, saying they are not involved in civil immigration enforcement.

Soon a huge mob of protesters took to the streets, marching with signs and Mexican flags. The crowd was reportedly nearly 1,0000 people.

Then, the protesters went berserk and it got VIOLENT:

“DHS Police continue to shoot less than lethal and tear gas pellets into the crowd to disperse, items thrown in all directions, and more mace used. Have not heard or seen of LAPD being called to assist the agents, since Mayor of LA said police will not interfere,” Cabassa reported.

WATCH BELOW as a police officer comes running and sends one protester flying, then arrests him:

By Friday evening the situation was really getting out of control.

“Protestors are now taking hammers to cement blocks to break them down and use against DHS police. This is about to get way worse unless LAPD is ordered to assist,” Cabassa announced.

“LAPD in Riot Gear have finally arrived and are assisting DHS agents who were trapped inside a federal Govt. parking structure. Order to disperse have been given,” Cabassa reported next.

The protesters are refusing to leave, and some are seen taunting the police.

“Los Ángeles, CA – LAPD have ordered the crowd to disperse or face getting arrested. They have said the is their final warning,” Cabassa reported.

The Los Angeles Police Department announced on X, “A City Wide Tactical Alert has been issued. All Officers are to remain on duty.”

DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin shared photos of multiple vandalized vehicles and wrote, “Assaulting ICE enforcement officers, slashing tires, defacing buildings. 800 protestors have surrounded and breached the first layer of a federal law enforcement building in LA. @LAPD has not responded. This violence against @ICEgov must stop.”

One top of all the violence, Fox News reporter Bill Melugin explained that “David Huerta, the president of one the largest unions in California, has been arrested and charged with interfering with federal agents during an ICE operation in LA today in which agents were executing a judicial warrant.”

U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli announced, “Federal agents were executing a lawful judicial warrant at a LA worksite this morning when David Huerta deliberately obstructed their access by blocking their vehicle. He was arrested for interfering with federal officers and will face arraignment in federal court on Monday. Let me be clear: I don’t care who you are—if you impede federal agents, you will be arrested and prosecuted. No one has the right to assault, obstruct, or interfere with federal authorities carrying out their duties.”

Defiantly, Mayor Karen Bass declared, “We are going to fight for all Angelenos, regardless of when they got here, whether they have papers or not, we are a city of immigrants.”

Egging on the protesters, Bass announced, “To the immigrant community in Los Angeles: You belong here. You are not alone. Los Angeles is your home — and we are fighting for you.”

X user Dapper Detective, a violent crimes detective, blasted Bass, writing, “Mayor Karen Bass has incited this violence. And ordered LAPD police to not assist DHS. Bass is a criminal and should be indicted.”
