President Donald Trump welcomed Ireland’s Prime Minister Micheal Martin to the Oval Office Wednesday morning.

The two leaders also attended the Annual Friends of Ireland Luncheon at the U.S. Capitol.

Trump assistant Margo Martin posted a video as President Trump greeted Martin when he arrived.

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump welcomed Martin and noted the similarities, saying he also “did it the hard way, he served, took a little time off, then he served again…. I’ve heard about that, that happens on occasion.”

Martin commended President Trump for the work he is doing to promote peace among other countries, and said, “everybody’s watching.”

Martin doubled down later during the discussion, saying, “I want to pay tribute to @POTUS on the peace initiatives… the war in Ukraine is a devastating war… we’re shocked at the prospect of young people losing their lives in that number… anything we can do to stop the violence is an extremely positive thing.”

During the discussion, President Trump slammed Democrats who are defending the anti-Israel and pro-Hamas activists taking over streets and college campuses, and especially took aim at Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.

Schumer is a Palestinian as far as I’m concerned. He’s become a Palestinian. He used to be Jewish. He’s not Jewish anymore. He’s a Palestinian,” Trump declared.

This came after Schumer released a statement Tuesday condemning the planned deportation of Hamas supporter Mahmoud Khalil, who has led the pro-Palestine protests in New York and is in the U.S. on a green card.

I abhor many of the opinions and policies that Mahmoud Khalil holds and supports, and have made my criticism of the antisemitic actions at Columbia loudly known. Mr. Khalil is also legal permanent resident here, and his wife, who is 8-months pregnant, is an American citizen.

While he may well be in violation of various campus rules regarding how the protests were conducted last year, that is a matter for the university to pursue, and I have encouraged them to be much more robust in how they combat antisemitism and maintain a harassment-free campus that protects the safety and security of Jewish and other students.

The Trump administration’s DHS must articulate any criminal charges or facts that would justify his detention or the initiation of deportation proceedings against him. If the administration cannot prove he has violated any criminal law to justify taking this severe action and is doing it for the opinions he has expressed, then that is wrong, they are violating the First Amendment protections we all enjoy and should drop their wrongheaded action.

In a lighthearted moment, a reporter asked Martin, “Why in the world would you let Rosie O’Donnell move to Ireland?”

O’Donnell, a far-left actress, recently announced she has moved to Ireland since Trump was inaugurated, as it’s ‘not safe’ in the U.S.

Martin appeared to hesitate, presumedly not knowing who Rosie O’Donnell is.

Trump quipped, “You’re better off not knowing.”

President Trump also joked about Vice President JD Vance’s shamrock socks, saying, “I love your socks. What’s with these socks? I’m trying to stay focused, but I’m very impressed with the VP’s socks.”

Martin later wrote on X, “On behalf of the Irish people, thank you ⁦@POTUS⁩ Trump for hosting me in the White House today. Thank you for your leadership and for the United State’s friendship to Ireland.”
