WATCH: Trump speaks at press briefing after Supreme Court rules against tariffs

President Donald Trump is speaking at a White House press briefing just after noon on Friday, following the bombshell ruling by the Supreme Court that struck down the bulk of the Trump’s tariffs, which had created a boom to the U.S. economy.

The Supreme Court’s 6-3 decision ruled that the president does not have the authority to levy sweeping tariffs under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, known as IEEPA.

Justices Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito and Brett Kavanaugh dissented, vehemently disagreeing with the decision, while conservative justices Neil Gorsuch, Amy Coney Barrett and Chief Justice John Roberts sided with the three liberal justices on the court.

In a fiery dissent, Kavanaugh warned that “the interim effects of the Court’s decision could be substantial. The United States may be required to refund billions of dollars to importers who paid the IEEPA tariffs, even though some importers may have already passed on costs to consumers or others.”

“The tariffs at issue here may or may not be a wise policy. But as a matter of text, history and precedent, they are clearly lawful,” Kavanaugh declared in his dissent.

Justice Thomas also slammed the ruling, writing, “Since the 1790s, Congress has consistently delegated to the President power over foreign commerce, including the power to impose duties on imports.”

The ruling came as President Trump was hosting a breakfast at the White House for governors from across the nation. An aide reportedly passed him a note to let him know of the decision during the breakfast meeting, to which Trump declared it was a “disgrace.”

“President Trump will hold a press briefing on the Supreme Court’s tariff decision at 12:45PM ET,” announced White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt in a post on X.

Trump said he is “deeply disappointed” with the “conservative” justices who ruled against him, and praised Kavanaugh, Thomas and Alito for their wise dissent.

He noted that some people are “celebrating in the streets” over the ruling, but said they won’t be celebrating for long.  He said there are other laws that give him the same authority to implement the tariffs.

Trump called out the ridiculous ruling, which claimed that he doesn’t have the authority to charge a single dollar in tariffs, but does have the authority to cut off trade entirely.

“So I can destroy a country, but I can’t charge them a little fee,” he noted in disgust.
