President Donald Trump had just three words in response to a question about whether NATO countries should take down Russian planes who invade their airspace.
Trump was taking questions from reporters during a meeting with Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Tuesday, as they were both in New York for a United Nations General Assembly conference.
One reporter asked Trump, “Do you think that NATO countries should shoot down Russian aircraft if they enter their airspace?”
Without any hesitation, Trump replied, “Yes, I do.”

This comes after armed Russian fighter jets violated Estonian airspace on Monday, for a period of at least 12 minutes.
Estonia’s Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna announced Monday, “Russian fighter jets were warned as they neared Estonian and @NATO airspace. Despite the warnings, they crossed the border and remained for 12 minutes.
“By doing so, Russia — a permanent member of the @UN Security Council — blatantly and recklessly violated Estonia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as the UN Charter and international law.”

Tsahkna said in a statement, “NATO and Allies will employ, in accordance with international law, all necessary military and non-military tools to defend ourselves and deter all threats from all directions. We will continue to respond in the manner, timing, and domain of our choosing. Our commitment to Article 5 is ironclad.”
