President Donald Trump said Wednesday morning that he is having two 100-foot flagpoles installed on each side of the White House lawn – and he will be paying for them out of his own pocket.

Wednesday morning, reporters spotted the President walking across the lawn outside the White House with several other men, as he was considering the best spot to erect the flagpoles.

Trump assistant and White House Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Scavino posted a video on social media, and confirmed Trump would be paying for the flag poles himself.

CBS News reporter Weijia Jiang posted another video:

Before going back in the White House, President Trump spoke to reporters and explained, “We’re putting up a beautiful, almost 100 foot tall American flag on this side, and another one on the other side. They’ve needed flag poles for 200 years.”

“It was something I’ve often said, you know, they don’t have a flagpole per se,” he explained. “So we’re putting one right where you saw us, and we’re putting another one on the other side, on top of the mounds. It’s going to be two beautiful poles, paid for by Trump!”

He said the flag poles will arrive in about a week.
