President-elect Donald Trump visited the White House on Wednesday to meet with President Joe Biden, a week after defeating Vice President Kamala Harris and winning a second term.
Despite tensions—Biden has called Trump a threat to democracy, and Trump has labeled Biden the worst president—the meeting follows a post-election tradition. After the election, Biden called Trump to congratulate him and invited him to Washington.
Trump also met with lawmakers on Wednesday as they held elections for key congressional leadership positions.
After a rough debate with Trump in June, Biden initially sought a second term but changed his mind. The debate’s outcome led Biden to end his campaign a month later, with Harris taking over as the Democratic nominee.
