WATCH: Thousands of pro-Palestine activists descend on Chicago to protest DNC

From the New York Times: As delegates arrive in Chicago on Sunday ahead of the Democratic National Convention, protesters plan to march along Michigan Avenue. On Monday, as the political show begins inside the United Center, demonstrators say they will gather by the thousands outside. And as the convention goes on, activists say, so too will the protests, every single day, showcasing divisions on the left during a week when Vice President Kamala Harris is trying to project Democratic unity and enthusiasm.

From the moment the Democrats chose Chicago as the site for their nominating convention, it was a foregone conclusion that protesters would show up in large numbers. The city has a long tradition of left-wing activism, and nominating conventions tend to attract demonstrations.

But as the war in Gaza left tens of thousands dead and divided the Democratic Party, expectations for large protests heightened, as did the memories of protests devolving into clashes with the Chicago police outside the party’s 1968 convention.

Sunday afternoon, X user and independent journalist George announced, “Hundreds of Chicago Police Officers are already being mobilized downtown to prepare for a big protest planned against the Democrats TONIGHT. The DNC hasn’t even officially begun, and the protestors are already about to hit the streets. It’s going to be a TRAINWRECK!”

“Thousands of Democrat Pro-Palestine protestors and rioters have FLOODED Downtown Chicago to protest the DNC. Here it looks like they have SHUTDOWN an entire street. There are cops everywhere, but the crowd now severely outnumbers them. Things are getting crazier as more show up,” George added.

In one disturbing report, CBS News announced that the Department of Homeland Security funded De-Contamination Rooms at Rush University Medical Center, which is within walking distance of the convention venue – in the event there is a bio-chemical attack.

Journalist Julio Rosas of The Blaze shared one video from Chicago and explained, “The first major protest ahead of the DNC in Chicago is about to begin. This was organized by the Coalition for Reproductive Justice and LGBT+ Liberation.”

“DNC protester in Chicago says the anti-Israel movement is the reason why Biden is no longer the nominee, tells VP Harris she needs to agree to their demands to earn their vote,” Rosas added in another post.

Sunday afternoon, protesters are marching through the streets of Chicago, carrying Palestinian flags, banging drums and chanting, “Long live the intifada”, “Long live the revolution” and “Out of your house, out of your home, we’ll bring the war home.”

Some businesses in Chicago reportedly boarded up their doors and windows, to protect their property from potential violence that may breaking out during the DNC.

And a “wall” was built around the venue where the Democratic convention will be held.
