During a recent episode of ABC’s “The View,” the co-hosts expressed skepticism over President Trump’s newly announced plan to reduce prescription drug costs.

Whoopi Goldberg criticized the plan for lacking specifics, such as which drugs would be affected and which insurance programs might be impacted. She argued that addressing drug prices without first reforming the insurance industry would be ineffective, suggesting that the plan was more about political optics than substantive policy.

Joy Behar added to the critique by mentioning the influence of pharmaceutical lobbyists on Congress, implying that meaningful reform would require reducing this influence. She also diverted the conversation to criticize Trump’s personal appearance, questioning his credibility on the issue. Sara Haines countered by noting that lobbying is a global issue, not unique to the United States.

Alyssa Farah Griffin, another co-host, pointed out that elements of Trump’s proposal align with initiatives supported by progressive lawmakers like Rep. Ro Khanna and Sen. Bernie Sanders, who have advocated for similar measures to lower drug costs. Despite this, Griffin expressed concern that the plan’s enforcement mechanisms resembled Soviet-style price controls, which she found troubling.

Goldberg responded by defending the idea of government intervention to ensure affordable healthcare, arguing that such measures are not inherently socialist but rather necessary for the country’s well-being. She claimed that enabling everyone to afford healthcare serves the national interest.
