From the New York Post: Hordes of bikini-clad spring breakers are being mocked mercilessly online for failing to answer simple questions from the US citizenship test — with one wildly declaring that Asia borders Canada and that the aptly named Pentagon is shaped like a square.
The footage, posted online by conservative social media personality Kaitlin Bennett over the weekend, has led some jeering critics so say it’s proof that the American education system has failed, and the US Department of Education should be disbanded.
The clip, which racked up more than 150,000 views in its first 48 hours, showcased scores of college kids in swimsuits in Clearwater Beach, Fla., incorrectly firing off answers to questions about the 2nd Amendment, from whom the US declared independence and whose face is plastered on the $100 bill.
Asked to name a US state that borders Canada, one dumbstruck student said “Asia” while another said, “I didn’t even know Canada had a border.”
When asked where Canada is, one boy said, “It’s in Toronto.”
The students couldn’t name the three branches of government, didn’t know how many justices are on the Supreme Court, or how many U.S. Senators there are; had no clue what the Civil War was about or who fought it, or what the Second Amendment was.
When asked to name at least one Supreme Court justice, one boy said, “Judge Judy.”
They couldn’t answer what shape the Pentagon building is, and didn’t appear to even know what the Pentagon is.
The students also couldn’t name which U.S. president is on the $100 bill.
One college student who couldn’t answer the questions admitted her major is in elementary education, and then said, “I haven’t taken a history class yet.”
“Did you pass the 8th grade?” Bennett asked.
When asked, “What is the name of the National Anthem,” the students couldn’t answer. One said, “The Pledge of Allegiance?” They also couldn’t even quote the first lines of the song.
When asked to recite the Pledge of Allegiance, a few could, but one girl said, “I don’t know, we don’t do that at my school.”

And this is exactly why we are closing down the Department of Education.
Everyone is making jokes, but this is legitimately scary.
This not only terrifying, but incredibly heartbreaking. Sad.
The irony is, we always hear how “people with a college degree mainly vote for dems” as if that’s some sort of mark of intelligence.
Proof that the Dept. of Ed is useless.
They’re not even wise enough to be embarrassed.
All those billions we spend on education…and this is why Trump closed the DOE. Pathetic.
Thankfully the Dept responsible for this lack of knowledge is being shut down.
We Definitely need to change the voting age back to 21, the way it was until the 1970’s.
This should be shown to people losing their jobs in the department of education. College teachers. And also to school district teachers.
There has never been an easier time to have and access knowledge in history and this is what we got to lead the future.
No child left behind left all children behind. This is what equity breeds.
This is the youth of the nation, I answered all the questions and Im a legal immigrant in this wonderful country, I feel shame for them who know nothing about this beautiful country, it is very sad to see that.
It hurts me so much, just as an American, but even more so as a veteran, for these fools to know so little about our country. And even worse that they have no idea of how ignorant they are.
As a Hispanic American 🇺🇸, that’s why we need to get rid of affirmative action, and D.E.I. Every thing should be based on merit only, not sexual orientation, not race.
I remember when stupidity was embarrassing.
As a current school board member, this is incredibly scary.
I’m fifteen and even I knew these questions, my ten year old brother probably could answer half of them! I’m so grateful I’m homeschooled thank you to my amazing mother who teaches me❤️
Student loan forgiveness? Absolutely making a case for having to pay every penny back on their own and throw in some extra for apparently not learning anything useful.
College is supposed to be for keen minds with strong intellectual and moral grounding. Yet, here we are. These folks shouldn’t have made it out of middle school.
