Republican Sen. John Kennedy, who is from Louisiana, was one of the officials who spoke at a press conference in New Orleans Wednesday afternoon regarding the deadly terror attack that was committed against New Year’s revelers on Bourbon Street.
A man identified as Shamsud-Din Jabbar, 42, a U.S. citizen born and raised in Texas, intentionally drove a pickup truck into the crowd after 3:00 a.m., killing at least 10 people and injuring another 35.
Jabbar then opened fire on police officers responding to the scene, and police returned fire, killing him.
Kennedy held nothing back while speaking at the press conference.
“I wish I understood better why bad things happen to good people. If I make it to heaven, I’m going to ask,” Kennedy began. “If this doesn’t trigger the gag reflex of every American… every fair-minded American, I’d be very surprised.”
“The federal government is now in charge of this investigation,” Kennedy said, adding that he had just spoken with DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
“I told him, with all the respect I could muster, that we expect [him] to put the full force and resources of the federal government behind this investigation,” he said.
“Here’s what I want to ask from the federal government: Catch these people, then tell the American people the truth,” Kennedy demanded.
“I will promise you this… when it’s appropriate and when this investigation is complete… you WILL find out what happened and who was responsible, or I will raise fresh hell, and I will chase those in the federal government who are responsible for telling us what happened like they stole Christmas,” he declared.

Earlier Wednesday morning, Kennedy wrote on social media, “The attack on Bourbon Street this morning was evil. I’m praying for every victim of this violence and am grateful to all the first responders who rushed toward danger to help the innocent today.
“Every resource that law enforcement needs to get answers about this barbaric act should be made available.”
