From NBC News: A convoy rolls through the dense fog: soldiers on motorbikes, some perched on the roofs of cars missing doors and windows, others atop a battered truck.

Debris covers the muddy, pockmarked road, geolocated by NBC News to southern Pokrovsk — the city where fierce battles are taking place amid Russia’s push to advance deeper into eastern Ukraine.

After more than a year of fighting, there are growing signs that Russia may be about to capture the city, a logistics hub seen as a gateway to the broader region.

Its forces have pierced stretched defensive lines, with Ukraine’s military saying Tuesday that there were “more than 300 Russians in the city.”

Ukraine’s 7th Rapid Response Corps posted the following statement on Facebook:

During recent days, the Russians have intensified efforts to penetrate Pokrovsk on light equipment through the southern suburbs. For this, the enemy used adverse weather conditions, including thick fog. This reduces opportunities for our aerial reconnaissance and outdoor experiences.

There are currently more than 300 Russians in the city. Their goal remains unchanged – to reach the northern borders of Pokrovsk with a further attempt to surround the agglomeration.

At the same time, the Defense Forces continue to identify and destroy enemy groups in urban development even in low visibility conditions. Since the beginning of November, the Defense Forces have eliminated 162 Russians in Pokrovsk, another 39 – wounded. Various links of the Defense Forces – Bps, Assault and Air Assault Units, SSO, SBU, National Guard, National Police and others continue to be involved in the cleaning of the city.
