The vote for House Speaker is scheduled to take place on Friday, but some Republican congress members are digging in for a long battle as current Speaker Mike Johnson seeks re-election to the top role.

From the Washington Examiner: House Speaker Mike Johnson’s (R-LA) future remains murky as former House maverick Matt Gaetz interviewed several House Republicans who remain undecided on his new OANN show.

Reps. Lauren Boebert (R-CO), Thomas Massie (R-KY), and Victoria Spartz (R-IN) all told Gaetz that they either oppose Johnson’s bid or require notable changes in order for him to have their votes.

Johnson can’t afford more than a single GOP defection in order to be elected speaker, assuming all Democrats are opposed, which appears to be the case. House Republicans hold a narrow 219 to 215 majority.

Massie reinforced on Thursday that he will be a sure “no” vote. Massie said, “You could pull all my fingernails out, you could shove bamboo up in them, you can start cutting off my fingers. I am not voting for Mike Johnson tomorrow.”

The vote for House Speaker is scheduled to start at noon Friday.

While Spartz and Boebert both indicated they were still on the fence about whether to vote for Johnson as Speaker, Massie is adamant he will NOT.
