Several “breaking news announcements” were made Friday morning, as President Donald Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth spoke to reporters in the Oval Office.

Trump and Hegseth announced who has been chosen to build a new line of fighter jets for the U.S.: Boeing.

From The Hill: The Pentagon will award its next-generation fighter jet contract to Boeing, a deal initially worth more than $20 billion, President Trump announced Friday alongside Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

The Next Generation Air Dominance program, an F-47 fighter jet, will replace Lockheed Martin’s F-22 Raptor with an aircraft meant to fight alongside drones, Trump announced at the White House.

Boeing and Lockheed were competing for the engineering and manufacturing development phase of the contract for the sixth-generation fighter jet, a winner-take-all approach that grants the victor hundreds of billions of dollars over the program’s lifetime.

The new fighter jet will be named after Trump: F-47.  “The generals picked the title… it’s a beautiful number,” Trump said.

“The F-47 will be the most advanced, most capable, most lethal aircraft ever built. An experimental version of the plane has secretly been flying for almost five years, and we’re confident that it massively overpowers capabilities of any other nation,” Trump announced.

“This is a big day for our warfighters. This is a big day for our country, a big day in the world … America is going to have generations in the future of air dominance because of this sixth-generation fighter,” Secretary Hegseth said.

White House Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Scavino posted an image of the F-47 on social media:

Air Force Chief of Staff David Allvin then posted a video showing the progression of America’s fighter jets, ending with an epic image of the new F-47.

Sen. Eric Schmitt (R-Mo.) announced, “Big day for Missouri. Big day for America. The F-47 next generation fighter that will dominate the skies and protect America will be built in St. Louis. This has been a big priority for me & for the people of my state and I want to thank President Trump for his leadership.🇺🇸”

President Trump also announced what will happen to certain critical programs, now that the Department of Education is being dismantled.

He said the Small Business Administration will now handle all the federal student loan programs, and will be serviced much better than it has in the past.

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) will be handling the programs for children with disabilities and special needs, and all the nutrition programs.

President Trump then responded to a number of questions from reporters:
