From the New York PostNew York state Attorney General Letitia James said in a new interview that the Trump administration’s criminal referral of her for mortgage fraud is “baseless” but declined to give details.

James appeared on Spectrum NY1’s “Inside City Hall” Thursday, attempting to swat down allegations from the Trump administration that she falsified real estate records in Virginia and New York.

“Let me just say to all New Yorkers and to all Americans: The allegations are baseless. The allegations are nothing more than a revenge tour,” James told NY1 political anchor Errol Louis.

When pressed about the number of units in her Brooklyn home — referring to the federal allegation that the AG illegally listed the home as having four units instead of five — James held her cards close to the vest.

“As you know, as any good attorney, I will not litigate this case in a camera. It is important that we respond to these allegations at the appropriate time and in an appropriate way,” she said, adding, “I will not go back and forth with respect to these baseless allegations. I am more focused again on standing up for freedom, liberties, and the rule of law in the state of New York.”

James then attempted to flip the script, touting her “successful” $454 million judgement secured against President Donald Trump “for exaggerating the value of his assets.”

“He engaged in a pattern and practice of fraud and the interest is accruing each and every day,” she sneered.

“The Trump administration’s accusations are baseless. I will not be silenced. I will not be bullied. I will not bend, I will not break, and I will not bow to anyone,” James declared in a menacing warning, while sharing a video of her remarks.

During a speech at the National Action Network 2025 Convention Women’s Luncheon earlier this week, James raged against President Donald Trump.

Without specifically mentioning the mortgage fraud allegations against her, James screamed, “My mission is clear, I’m focused, I’m prepared, I’m ready, I’ve been trained by the best… I’m not afraid of no president! Donald Trump, we’re ready for you! We’re coming for you! We’re fighting on! We’re not going down silent!”

Continuing to scream at the top of her lungs, she said she’s “not waiting four years,” but is waiting two… as she predicted that Hakeem Jeffries will then be Speaker of the House.

The Daily Caller sent two reporters to the home in Virginia which Letitia James had allegedly reported as her primary residence. Someone inside the home screamed at them to leave, declaring they were trespassing.

It is unknown exactly who lives there.

Rep. Jim Jordan weighed in on the mortgage fraud allegations against James during a Fox News interview Thursday night.  WATCH BELOW:

Steven McLaughlin, the County Executive for Rensselaer County, New York, announced Thursday, “Today, following allegations of mortgage fraud against her, I have sent a letter seeking disciplinary proceedings to determine whether Letitia James is fit to hold a law license in this state. I believe she is not and her license should be revoked.”

Rep. Ralph Norman (R-SC) also posted a letter an announced, “I sent a letter to @pulte applauding the FHFA’s referral of NY AG Letitia James for criminal prosecution related to her alleged involvement in mortgage fraud. Misconduct like this undermines the integrity of taxpayer-funded programs and it’s got to stop!! Looking forward to hearing what reforms can be included in future housing legislation.”

Fraud investigator Sam Antar is the individual who first brought the multiple alleged discrepancies surrounding James’ mortgage documents to light.

Antar released a detailed analysis of his allegations against James on Thursday. On social media, he posted the following outline:

BREAKING: Letitia James’ Mortgage Fraud Defenses vs. Reality

FULL ANALYSIS (11 min read):

She’s under federal criminal investigation—and her excuses fall apart when you compare them side by side 🧵👇

❌DEFENSE: “She didn’t intend to live in Virginia.”

✅REALITY:
On Aug 17, 2023, James signed a notarized, recorded Power of Attorney declaring:
“I HEREBY DECLARE that I intend to occupy this property as my principal residence.”
📍Filed in Norfolk land records
👀 Witnessed by Jennifer Levy—who led the Trump fraud case

❌DEFENSE: “There was a separate form saying she wasn’t living there.”

✅REALITY:
📰 The NY Times never published the form
📄 It was handed to them by James’ office
❌ Not notarized
❌ Not filed
❌ Not legally binding
Even if it exists, it proves she made conflicting statements

❌DEFENSE: “It was just paperwork.”

✅REALITY:

The mortgage required:
☑️ Move in by Oct 30, 2023
☑️ Occupy for at least 1 year
📅 Oct 2, 2023 – James was launching Trump trial in NYC
📉 That’s a violation of 18 U.S.C. § 1014 (false statements to a lender)

❌DEFENSE: “Her niece lives there.”

✅REALITY:
👤 Her niece’s residency doesn’t satisfy the mortgage
🧾 The Deed of Trust says both borrowers—James and niece—must occupy
👀 Neighbors confirmed to NY Post: “She’s never been seen.”

❌DEFENSE: “It’s just one isolated loan.”

✅REALITY:
At her Brooklyn property—296 Lafayette Ave:
🏚️ Official C of O says 5 units
📄 James claimed only 4 on:
• Mortgage filings
• DOB permit applications
• 2011 HAMP loan (which disqualifies 5+ unit properties)

This allowed her to qualify for favorable loan terms she wouldn’t otherwise receive.

❌DEFENSE: “The Certificate of Occupancy isn’t accurate.”

✅REALITY:
🚫 A C of O isn’t some outdated owner estimate
🏛️ It’s a legal classification issued by NYC DOB after inspection
📄 Hers was issued Jan 26, 2001—2 weeks before she bought the property
🛑 It’s been unchanged for 24 years
✔️ Any permit listing fewer units contradicts the law

❌DEFENSE: “She disclosed everything.”

✅ REALITY:
🚫The $219K Virginia mortgage is missing from her 2023 NY ethics filing
🚫 No Virginia homestead exemption filed
⚖️ NY law requires disclosure of large debts unless the property is your sole residence—which James now says it’s not

📌 Bottom line:
Letitia James and Jennifer Levy prosecuted Trump for false real estate declarations—

Then engaged in the same conduct themselves.

🧾 This isn’t political. It’s documentary evidence—and it doesn’t lie.

Antar responded to James’ comments in the NY1 interview by declaring, “Hello @errollouis: The allegations against @NewYorkStateAG Letitia James are not “baseless.” I’ve documented—in public, with receipts—a pattern of false statements, undisclosed mortgages, and contradictory sworn filings. I investigated her independently. I’m not Trump. I answer to no one. If James wants to defend her actions, let her face me publicly. Anywhere, anytime.”

James’s communications director Geoff Burgan posted the link to her comments for the NY1.com interview.
