Former President Donald Trump, the 2024 Republican nominee, visited Asheville, North Carolina Monday morning and toured the devastation left behind by Hurricane Helene.
During a noon press conference, Trump delivered remarks as he met with local leaders of the community, and assured them that he will work with them to help the state recover from the disastrous and deadly storm, should he be elected back to the Oval Office.
Asheville business owner Mike Stuart shared a moving story of his own loss, and his support for Trump, and then, in a profound and beautiful moment, he asked Trump if he could pray for him.
Stuart owns Pine View Buildings, a company in Asheville which sells small buildings such as garden sheds, cabins and carports. He said they had over 70 buildings on their site, and lost every one of them in the flood. In their place, piles of houses, tanker trucks, and other debris was washed onto their property.
Then, speaking straight from his heart, Stuart said to Trump, “I believe that you can serve as a great inspiration to this community right now… I think God has given you an indomitable spirit. No matter what gets thrown at you, you find a way to press through, and I think that will serve as an inspiration to this community to press on to move forward.”
“I can’t think of anything I’d rather have than a warrior leading our country. A warrior who, with the help of God and with faith and prayer, will lead these communities and this country to greatness. So thank you for being here today,” he added.
Trump reached out and gave him a hug.
Stuart then asked Trump if he could pray for him. Below is his prayer:
“Father, I thank You for this man that You have raised up in this moment, in this season, for Your purposes. And I pray that You would anoint him… things aren’t done just by might or by power, but by Your spirit, so I ask that You would anoint President Donald Trump and give him a spirit of wisdom and understanding and insight, as he moves to lead this nation back to greatness. In Jesus name, I pray. Amen.”
