In an exclusive interview with Fox News Thursday evening, Elon Musk and seven members of his DOGE [Department of Government Efficiency] team revealed stunning details about the depth of fraud, waste and abuse they have found in the U.S. government spending.
DOGE staffers joining Musk for the interview were, according to the Daily Beast:
- Steve Davis, Musk’s top lieutenant on the project, who has also worked at SpaceX and X.
- Aram Moghaddassi, an engineer at DOGE who previously worked for Musk at X, xAI, and Neuralink according to Business Insider.
- Joe Gebia, the co-founder of Airbnb who, as written on Fox News, is working on a “digital retirement project” at DOGE.
- Brad Smith, a healthcare entrepreneur overseeing the Health and Human Services Department on behalf of DOGE.
- Anthony Armstrong, a former banker who reportedly helped Musk acquire Twitter and is now overseeing the Office of Personnel Management on behalf of DOGE.
- Tom Krause, the CEO of Cloud Software Group and DOGE’s watchdog at the Treasury Department.
- Tyler Hassen, DOGE’s representative at the Interior Department.
“The sheer amount of waste and fraud in the government, it is astonishing — it’s mind boggling. We routinely encounter wastes of $1 billion or more — casually,” Musk said.
Musk and his team revealed that the fraud in the Social Security program is far worse than anyone realized. While Democrats continue to push the claim that Musk is destroying the program, he insisted that Americans will actually end up with more benefits, as a result of eliminating all the fraud.
Moghaddassi explained, “At Social Security, one of the first things we learned is that they get phone calls every day of people trying to change direct deposit information. When you want to change your bank account, you can call Social Security. We learned 40% of the phone calls they get are from fraudsters… Almost half.”
Musk explained that the fraudsters will call in, pretending to be the Social Security recipient, and request to change their bank information. Then when the real recipient stops getting their checks, they learn the money is going to the fraudsters’ bank account instead.
“What we’re doing will help their benefits.. legitimate people as a result of the work of @DOGE will receive more Social Security, not less. I want to emphasize that.. Let the record show that I said this and it will be proven out to be true,” Musk said.

“There were over $300M of Small Business loans that’s been given out to people under the age of 11… the youngest recipient of an SBA loan is a 9 month old.. obviously, which is fraudulent,” Musk said.

The team also discussed the mine that the government still uses to store retirement paperwork for federal workers, and explained they are creating a new digital program to process retirements much faster and more efficiently.
Airbnb co-founder @jgebbia is working with @DOGE to digitize the government’s antiquated retirement process — which is literally housed in 22,000 filing cabinets in a Pennsylvania cave.

“We’re changing the culture — the federal government can’t pass an audit! If this was a private business, we’d all be fired,” the team said.

“Are we gonna get a lot of complaints along the way? Absolutely… You know who complains the loudest and with the most amount of fake righteous indignation? The fraudsters,” Musk said, adding, “It’s a tell. Like the $2 billion to Stacey Abrams NGO that basically didn’t exist. There are many such cases like that.”
