New York City mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani, who will soon become the city’s first Muslim and first Socialist mayor, won the election by promising voters a slew of free benefits and services.
But now, Mamdani has found out his transition is not free, so he posted a video on social media this week begging for people to donate money – a whopping $4 million, to be exact.
Mamdani says he needs the money to fund a number of endeavors.
“We have to vet the 50,000 resumes we’ve received,” he claimed, adding, “We have to keep paying our incredible team.”
“And we have to plan not just our inauguration, but our policy implementation,” he continued.
He boasted that he’s already raised $1 million, but said he needs $4 million in total.
Mamdani begged people to “give whatever you can, to help build a New York that everyone can afford.”

Mamdani is being hit with widespread mockery over his video. Here’s just a sampling of the comments pouring in:
Xi Van Fleet: “You need money from your voters? But they are waiting for freebies from you 😂.”
Clown World: “You still begging for money??? 🤦♂️.”
Paul Szypula: “Oh look, Mamdani is begging for money again in order to provide his donors everything for free. See how this scam works?”
In another post Szypula wrote, “Mamdani continues to scam his supporters out of more money by saying they have to donate millions in order to get free stuff. This is the oldest fraud in the book. His supporters have been duped.”
Tom Elliott: “Have you considered a bake sale?”
Mike P: “This is so funny I keep coughing from laughing so hard.”
Noel: “But I thought everything was gonna be free? What happens when the money runs out?”
Shai Goldman: “Everything will be free. But I need money now. This is how most scams start.”
