In his race for the Oval Office, former President Donald Trump is going where most Republicans wouldn’t bother to go, and holding a campaign rally Saturday evening in Coachella, California.

Trump held a roundtable Latino event in Las Vegas earlier on Saturday, and will be holding a rally in Prescott Valley on Sunday.

The Associated Press noted that, even though Trump is not expected to win California, there are multiple practical reasons for him to go there. The AP wrote:

The former president lost California in a landslide in 2020. He did get 6 million-plus votes, more than any GOP presidential candidate before, and his margins topped 70% in some rural counties that typically favor conservatives on the ballot.

That’s an enormous pool of potential volunteers to work on state races and participate in phone banks into the most contested states. And Trump is likely to draw extensive media coverage in the Los Angeles market, the second-largest in the country.

Going to California gives Trump the “ability to swoop in and leverage this big population of Trump supporters,” said Tim Lineberger, who was communications director for Trump’s 2016 campaign in Michigan and also worked in the former president’s administration. He’s “coming here and activating that.”

The AP notes that it is also a fundraising opportunity, and several Republican congressional races are also at stake in California.

Earlier on Saturday, Trump confirmed his full endorsement for two Republican House members running for re-election: Rep. Darrell Issa and Rep. Ken Calvert.

Congressman Darrell Issa is an incredible Fighter for the Wonderful People of California’s 48th Congressional District! A highly successful Businessman, Darrell knows how to Stop Inflation, Lower Gas Prices, and Grow our Economy, and Bring Back the American Dream. In Congress, he is working hard to Secure our Border, Promote Energy DOMINANCE, Defend our always under siege Second Amendment and, as a U.S. Army Veteran, Darrell is fighting to ensure our Brave Veterans receive the care and support they deserve. Darrell Issa has my Complete and Total Endorsement – HE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!

Congressman Ken Calvert is doing a phenomenal job representing the Great People of California’s 41st Congressional District! As a very successful Small Businessman, Ken knows how to Fight Inflation, Grow the Economy, Lower Taxes, and Eliminate Government Waste. As a Senior Member of the POWERFUL Appropriations Committee, Ken is working hard to Secure the Border, Stop Migrant Crime, Strengthen our Military/Vets, Deliver Sustainable Water Solutions, and Protect our always under siege Second Amendment. Ken Calvert has my Complete and Total Endorsement – HE WILL NOT LET YOU DOWN!

Massive crowds of people were seen arriving for the rally at Coachella, hours in advance.

Students for Trump Chair Ryan Fournier re-posted a video of a long line of cars waiting to get into the rally before dawn, nearly 12 hours before Trump was set to speak.

“HOLY… This is Coachella right now just a little after 7 am. Trump doesn’t speak for like 12 hours. Everyone said this rally would be a flop. Who’s laughing now 🤣,” Fournier wrote.

Many people reportedly camped out overnight.

Prominent X user “Wall Street Apes” posted a video of a long line of vehicles driving down the interstate with Trump flags and wrote, “HOY SH*T ‼️ This is a line of cars making their way to the Donald Trump rally in Coachella, California. But this isn’t Coachella, this is Moreno Valley, OVER AN HOUR AWAY!! This is going to be HUGE!”

Another video shows a massive number of people waiting to get in to the rally.

“The lines to enter the Coachella, California Donald Trump Rally are still as far as the eyes can see. It’s so packed they’re having people line up outside the venue and along the street! This is after HOURS of processing people into the event. California is MAGA,” Wall Street Apes wrote.

The line is endless:

According to multiple social media posts, the crowds are enduring the heat, as temperatures are hovering around 100 degrees.

Trump aide Dan Scavinio posted a video as the motorcade made its way to the rally.  A number of Trump supporters are seen lining the road as they pass by.

Meanwhile, the liberal mayor of Coachella threw a fit when he learned Trump would be coming to hold a rally there, and even called people to join him in an anti-Trump protest on Saturday.

In a sneering post on Facebook on Monday, Coachella Mayor Steven Hernandez wrote, “Trump’s attacks on immigrants, women, the LQBTQ community and the most vulnerable among us don’t align with the values of our community. He has consistently expressed disdain for the type of diversity that helps define Coachella. We don’t know why Trump is visiting near Coachella, but we know he wasn’t invited by the people who live here. He ain’t like us.”
