President Donald Trump is participating in a signing ceremony for the peace agreement between Rwanda and the Congo Thursday afternoon.
Trump hosted the leaders of Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo at the White House ahead of the signing ceremony.
The peace agreement is aimed at ending the conflict in eastern Congo and opening access to the region’s critical minerals for the U.S. government and American companies, the Associated Press reported.
The ceremony is attended by Presidents Felix Tshisekedi of Congo and Paul Kagame of Rwanda, along with multiple other officials from other African nations.
