President Donald Trump is signing Executive Orders in the Oval Office Friday afternoon.
One Executive order changes the name of the Department of Defense to the “Department of War,” which is what the department was called until the 1940’s.
Likewise, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth will now be known as the Secretary of War.
The Hill explained: “The order also reportedly directs Hegseth to propose legislative actions to make the name change permanent, although Trump had previously indicated that he was not concerned with getting congressional approval.”
Hegseth said while speaking in the Oval Office, “We’re going to raise up warriors. Not just defenders.”
Hegseth later posted a video on X, showing a new name plate being added to the door of his office:
