President Donald Trump will be announcing sweeping tariffs on imported goods during a “Make America Wealthy Again” event to be held at the White House Rose Garden on Wednesday afternoon, at 4:00 p.m. ET.
Trump has been calling the day of the announcement “Liberation Day,” as the tariffs are being implemented as an effort to ramp up manufacturing in the United States, and crack down on countries guilty of unfair trade practices.
“April 2, 2025, will go down as one of the most important days in modern American history,” declared White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt on Tuesday. The tariffs will reportedly take effect “immediately.”
“For the first time in decades, the United States will see fair trade as President Donald J. Trump announces tariffs to level the playing field for American workers and businesses,” the White House announced in a press release Wednesday.
White House trade adviser Peter Navarro has suggested the new tariffs would raise $600 billion annually, which would be the largest tax increase since World War II, the Associated Press reported.
Meanwhile, the Department of Commerce announced Wednesday that a 25% tariff will be imposed on all imported canned beer and empty aluminum cans starting Friday, April 4.
“IT’S LIBERATION DAY IN AMERICA!” President Trump announced early Wednesday morning.
Ahead of Trump’s Rose Garden address, the White House released the following video:
“Our country will flourish and be respected again all over the world. We will be the envy of every nation, and we will not allow ourselves to be taken advantage of any longer. We’re going to reclaim our wealth. This is the beginning of Liberation Day in America.” –President Trump pic.twitter.com/JB8P51mhSb

Last month, President Trump spoke to reporters aboard Air Force One, and said it’s going to make our country rich again.
“We’ve lost 90,000 factories since the beginning of NAFTA,” Trump said.

The White House Rapid Response team posted a clip from Trump’s appearance on the Oprah Show in 1988, in which he discussed the same issue he’s been saying for years… that other countries are ripping off America.
President Trump has been calling attention to the disaster falsely marketed as “free trade” for decades.
In reality, foreign countries have gotten rich at the expense of the American worker.
