President Donald Trump is delivering an address at the Department of Justice headquarters in Washington, D.C. Friday afternoon.
While rare for a President to speak at the Department of Justice, it has been done. President Barack Obama spoke there in 2014.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters Trump’s speech would be “focused on restoring law and order to our country.”
“In the last four years in the Biden administration, we unfortunately saw the Department of Justice that was weaponized against Americans for their political ideology,” she said.
Trump will be speaking in the same room where Special Counsel Jack Smith announced he was filing charges against him less than two years ago. Now those cases have all been trashed, Smith is OUT at the DOJ, and Trump was re-elected to the Oval Office in a historic landslide.
CBS19 News published a sneering report just prior to Trump’s speech at the DOJ on Friday, calling the President a “convicted felon.” The article begins:
US President Donald Trump is to give a speech at the Department of Justice on Friday in a show of power over the agency he accused of weaponizing the law against him under his predecessor Joe Biden.
The speech on law and order by Republican Trump — the first convicted felon to sit in the White House — will be staged in the same building where officials previously brought two criminal cases against him.
Since returning to office Trump has taken a sledgehammer to the Department of Justice, breaking decades-old political norms aimed at preserving judicial independence.
Attorney General Pam Bondi announced on Thursday, “Looking forward to welcoming @POTUS to the Department of Justice tomorrow!”

Bondi said there will be no more “weaponization” at the Justice Department.
“We are going back to the basics of fighting violent crime,” she declared.

Speaking to reporter in the Oval Office Thursday, President Trump said of his upcoming speech, “All I’m going to do is set out my vision… we don’t want to have crime in the streets. We don’t want to have people pushed into subways and killed… we’ll be talking about immigration… we’ll be talking about a lot of things.”

In what could be seen as a pointed “victory” message, White House assistant Margo Martin posted a photo on X Friday morning, featuring the framed image of Trump’s Georgia mugshot hanging on the wall just outside the Oval Office.
“Good morning!” Martin cheerfully wrote.
