Democrats are dissolving into spasms after President Donald Trump joked on Tuesday that he could be the next Pope.
The president spoke to reporters outside the White House Tuesday afternoon, as he was getting ready to leave to attend a rally in Michigan, marking his first 100 days in office.
President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump attended the funeral for Pope Francis in Rome, Italy on Saturday. Speculation is now swirling over who Catholic leaders will appoint as the next pope.
A reporter asked Trump his opinion on who the next pope should be. He responded, jokingly, “I’d like to be pope. That would be my number one choice.”
“No, I don’t know, I have no preference,” he added, getting serious again. “I must say we have a cardinal who happens to be out of a place called New York who’s very good… so we’ll see what happens.” He was likely referring to New York Archbishop Timothy Dolan.

Social media has lit up, with many liberals fuming over Trump’s joke. Some are claiming he wants to be king, while others are screeching that he should be sent to prison.
“Maybe he should replace Jesus Christ in the Bible.. or maybe we should just all call him God and maybe his ego would be satisfied,” one liberal raged.
“I’m all for it if he agrees to move to the Vatican,” one person snarked.
Meanwhile, conservatives are mocking liberals over their meltdown. Army veteran Ray Salomone wrote, “Lead story on @MSNBC will be, “Trump demands to be Pope. Federal judge vows to block bid.””

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) used the Roman numerals for 2028 and joked, “I was excited to hear that President Trump is open to the idea of being the next Pope. This would truly be a dark horse candidate, but I would ask the papal conclave and Catholic faithful to keep an open mind about this possibility! The first Pope-U.S. President combination has many upsides. Watching for white smoke…. Trump MMXXVIII!”
