A heartwarming video is going viral on social media, as Vice President JD Vance gets to see and enter the Oval Office for the first time in his life, one day after being sworn in to office.
Vance, 40, is the third youngest vice president in U.S. history. He came from humble beginnings: his parents divorced when he was a toddler, his childhood was marked with poverty and abuse, his mother suffered from drug addiction, and he was raised primarily by his grandparents.
Vance enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps after high school, and his his four years of service included a deployment to Iraq. After leaving the military, he attended college, graduated from law school, clerked for a judge for a year, worked at a law firm for two years, then worked as a venture capitalist.
Vance then served two years in the U.S. Senate, before being tapped to serve as President Donald Trump’s running mate. He was just sworn into office during the inauguration ceremony on Monday.
And Tuesday, Vance got to see the Oval Office for the first time in his life.
House Speaker Mike Johnson posted a video on social media Wednesday morning and explained, “As we gathered for our meeting at the White House yesterday, JD Vance mentioned to us that he had never before visited the Oval Office. I told him and President Trump that I HAD to capture the moment on video. Only in America can a hardworking young man from Appalachia rise from his humble circumstances to enter the Oval for first time as VICE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. What a country! 🇺🇸.”
