From the New York Post: An activist at an anti-Trump “Hands Off!” rally proudly declared Saturday, “I am an immigrant, I am undocumented, unafraid, queer and unashamed” — leading jeering critics to call for her to be deported.
Greisa Martinez Rosas — who’s been a national immigration activist for years and heads pro-immigration group United We Dream — proclaimed her status at a rally in Washington DC that targeted President Trump’s policies including mass deportation, widespread tariffs and spending cuts carried out by Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency.
A short clip of Rosas’ proclamation has gone viral on social media, garnering at least a million views on various posts on X.
The video sparked backlash from many users who advocated for her arrest and deportation as a result of her declaration.
“Deport her. Now,” one user said.
X user Jessica shared the video and tagged ICE, writing, “she’ll be in D.C. all day for the Hands Off protests.”

Rosas’ bio on the University of Illinois Chicago website reads: [emphasis added]
She is the new Executive Director at United We Dream, the largest immigrant youth-led network in the country with more than 400,000 members. In this role, Greisa is a UWD strategist and also implements UWD’s vision as the organization continues to build power throughout the country. Originally from Hidalgo, Mexico, Greisa immigrated to the U.S. with her family at an early age and grew up in Dallas, TX as an undocumented immigrant. Greisa has organized immigrant youth and workers for the passage of pro-immigrant policies at the local and national level for the past 10 years. In 2006, Greisa led student walk-outs in Texas that we’re part of the historic national mobilization. As a result, she began organizing to help young Latinos register to vote in her hometown of Dallas, TX, and has since become a fearless defender of her undocumented community and a staunch advocate for the rights of women. Greisa was a fellow with the League of Young Voters. She co-founded the Council for Minority Student Affairs at Texas A&M University, the first undocumented youth-led group in the University’s 100 year history. She founded the Texas Dream Alliance and was a fellow with the League of Young Voters. Greisa is a leading voice in the progressive movement, and has been featured in CNN, MSNBC, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, BBC, Telemundo, and Univision, among others.

Rosas is not only “not afraid,” but she was celebrated and given a prominent spot by the Biden administration during multiple events for queers at the White House.

Are we in the minority that believes that healthy amounts of shame in a society are necessary and beneficial? When there is no shame, there is no respect, and there is no adherence to structure. A radically shameless society can’t function.
