Republican Sen. John Kennedy of Louisiana is a legend…. a national treasure… and he delivered a 30-minute address from the Senate floor Wednesday evening that every American taxpayer needs to see.
Using the witty zingers he is so beloved for, Kennedy ripped into Democrats who are having meltdowns over Elon Musk exposing billions in wasteful government spending, and laid it all out on the table, line by line.
President Trump has appointed Musk, the wealthiest person in the world, to lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Democrats are howling in protest.
Kennedy started out by giving a hilarious description of the Washington, D.C. swamp.
He then reminded that when Trump was running for president, he promised he would go through all the spending, line by line, and get rid of the waste. Kennedy said Trump then hired Musk to do just exactly what he promised he would do.
Referring to the Democrats’ protests, Kennedy argued, “How are you going to review the spending without reviewing the spending? How are you going going to audit the spending by an agency, without auditing the agency?”
He said Musk has put together a “crackerjack” team, and they are doing exactly what President Trump promised to do. But the Democrats are upset, because “they’ve never had anybody question their spending.”
Kennedy said Democrats aren’t even talking about what Musk has found… they’re just upset that Musk is reviewing it.
He then listed off just some of the many shocking wasteful spending that Musk has found.
At one point, Kennedy pointed to the national debt, which currently stands at $36 trillion, and said if he just started counting one numeral per second, it would take him 32 years to count to one billion.
“It would be 2057… I’d be dead as Woodrow Wilson,” he quipped.
It would take 31,000 years just to count to one trillion… “About as old as Sen. Chuck Grassley,” he joked.
“It would take me one million years to count to 36 trillion,” he added.
